Growing cherry for export to Japan

97 households in Tien Giang province have been selected to grow special cherries for export to Japan.

This is part of a project launched by the Thinh Phat Limited Company in July. Lam Dang Trung, director of Thinh Phat Limited Company will support the farmers with seeds, cultivation technique, fertilisers and materials to protect the trees.

The company will buy all of the farmer’s produce at a price of VND3,500 per kilo, double the market price.

Instead of using local cherry seeds the farmers will be supplied with a variety of sour cherry seeds to grow.

Cherry is one of 7 fruits that have a competitive advantage making them the key agricultural products in the province’s coastal districts.
