Execs learn management skills

A seminar in HCM City yesterday announced a senior management programme that would increase the capacity of senior executives to identify and tackle upcoming challenges efficiently.

The programme, to be held in September, is being offered through a collaboration between the Enterprise Development Foundation under the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) based in Shanghai.

Henry Claude de Bettignies, distinguished professor of Globally Responsible Leadership and EU Chair Professor of Global Governance at the CEIBS, said to ensure sound economic development, Viet Nam needed entrepreneurs, leaders and managers who could efficiently, effectively and responsibly manage the nation’s resources.

"Business schools can prepare professionals to build the knowledge, skills and attitude required to succeed," he added.

He said that as leaders moved to the top in a corporate hierarchy, conceptual skills became more important than just people management and technical know-how that were more specific to middle and lower level management positions.

"The promotion of attitudes conducive to reasonable risk-taking and responsible decision can be learnt and fostered," Bettignies said, adding this was particularly needed in Viet Nam and in the Asia-Pacific region.

The VCSMP programme aimed to develop responsible leadership by providing new insights about the major factors that have significant impacts on business in the global marketplace, officials said at the seminar.
