Dung Quat refinery restarts
Dung Quat Oil Refinery resumed operations on Thursday after being shut down since August 16 with technical problems, an official said.
"The refinery reopened at 11am, reached 50 per cent capacity five hours later and 65 per cent at 6pm," said Nguyen Hoai Giang, head of the refinery’s trial run unit.
The country’s first refinery, which is located in the central Quang Ngai Province’s Binh Son District, had shut down because of a problem with its residue fluid catalytic cracking system.
At the time of shutdown, it had been operated at up to 70 per cent of its capacity, with production of more than 435,000 tonnes of petroleum, including liquid petroleum gas, A92 petrol, diesel, kerosene and fuel oil.
The refinery expected to exceed 85 per cent or full capacity by October 20, Giang added.
At full capacity, the refinery will produce annually 1.9 million tonnes of petroleum, 3 million tonnes of diesel, 290,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas, 110,000 tonnes of propylene, 410,000 tonnes of jet fuel, and 320,000 tonnes of fuel oil.
Typhoon Ketsana, which devastated the central region earlier this week, did not affect the refinery, he said.
