Domestic, foreign milk products have same quality, say Vinastas
Many milk products by foreign and domestic companies have the same quality, including safety, nutritional content and meet Ministry of Health standards, said the Southern Office of Vietnam Standards and Consumers Association (Vinastas) October 2.
The samples were collected from various liquid milk products, which are sold in Ho Chi Minh City.
Retail prices of foreign milk products are, on average, higher than domestic milk products by 46 percent. Specifically, the average price of one foreign milk product is VND32,100 per liter, while a comparable domestic product is VND22,000 per liter.
The surveyors collected 16 samples from liquid milk in the city on September, including nine samples from domestic milk such as Dutch Lady, Vixumilk, Ba Vi fresh milk, Daisy, Nuti, Izzi, Elovi, Honoimilk, Vinamilk and seven samples from foreign milk such as Pura, Meadon Fresh, Anchor (New Zealand), Harvey Fresh, Devondale (Australia) and President (France).
Though the prices of domestic milk products are nearly 50 percent lower than that of foreign milk products, consumers still prefer to buy foreign products that account for 80 percent of the Vietnamese market.
Vinatas has also teamed with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Vietnam Retailers’ Association to promote domestic milk products.
Vinatas has instructed all its affiliates nationwide to mobilize domestic milk producers to take their products into remote regions.
