POM: Pomina opens the second steelworks

After two years of construction, on March 16, 2012, the second steelworks of Pomina Steel Corporation officially went to operations. This is the most scale and modern steelworks in Southeast Asia, with a capacity of one million tons a year.

The investment of first phase is VND2,400 billion. The steelworks has European technology and lines, Tenova Consteel smelter (120 tons/hour) and Concast casting machine.

At present, the capacity of the entire Pomina group is 1.5 million tons/year. From early 2012, Pomina stopped importing steel billet, and each year Pomina will save about US$300 million from scrap iron import instead of steel billet.
