VN-Index climbs second day on strong demand 

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index jumped the second trading session on March 21 thanks to sudden buying demand on enhancing confidence.

Shares of 305 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange soared 1.24 per cent, or 5.48 points, to close at 445.77 points.

Among the index members, 203 advancers, 47 decliners, while 60 stocks remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse rose by 50 per cent in volume and 30 per cent in value over the previous trading session as 98.38 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.39 trillion.

Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) was the most active share in volume with 8.48 million shares changing hands.

Licogi 16 Joint Stock Company (LCG) followed with 4.89 million shares.

Becamex Infrastructure Development Joint Stock Company (IJC) finished third with 4.22 million shares traded.

Chang Yih Ceramic Joint Stock Company (CYC), Saigon Beverage Joint Stock Company (TRI), and South Vietnam Container Shipping Joint Stock Company (VSG) all sprang 5.26 per cent to close at VND2,000.

Other big gainers included AgriBank Securities Joint Stock Corporation (AGR), Petrolimex Insurance Joint Stock Company (PGI), Royal International Corporation (RIC), Petro Vietnam Finance Joint Stock Corporation (PVF), and Post & Telecommunications Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company (PTC).

Cuu Long Petro Urban Development & Investment Corporation (CCL), Khang An Investment Real Estate Joint Stock Company (KAC), and Long Giang Investment & Urban Development Joint Stock Company (LGL) all shed 5 per cent to close at VND7,600, VND13,300, and VND5,700 respectively.

Cotec Construction Joint Stock Company (CTD) capped its five-day winning run, shrinking 4.94 per cent to close at VND36,600.

Viet Nam Fumigation Joint Stock Company (VFG) dumped 4.9 per cent to close at VND36,900.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – emerged 5.51 points, or 1.1 per cent, to end at 506.8. Among its 30 members, 23 stocks climbed, 6 retreated, and 1 remained unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north built up 1.71 per cent, or 1.27 points, to close at 75.66 points with 242 winners, 55 losers, and 49 stocks treaded water. More than 104.33 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.08 trillion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares rose 0.69 per cent, or 0.24 points, to close at 35.11 points. A total of 933,704 shares changed hands at VND31.85 billion.
