NTA expects 2.2 million visit arrivals this year

The National Tourism Administration expects 2.2 million tourist arrivals this year, according to Deputy President of the National Tourism Administration, Mr. Soukaseum Phothisane.

Laos recorded over one million tourist arrivals in the first six months, an increase of 26 per cent over last years same period.

The National Tourism Administration held a seminar in Vientiane Capital on November 2, on tourist market in Laos and Vientiane Capital to mark the 450th anniversary of Vientiane as the national capital.

The seminar was attended by overseas Laotians, students from the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels of the National University of Laos and relevant officials.

The trainees studied a report on tourism development in Laos and Vientiane Capital, and the tourism development plan of the Lao government, among others.

The Party and Government have paid attention to the improvement and development of basic infrastructure to facilitate its connectivity and communication with neighbouring and regional countries.

There are now 21 international border checkpoints in Laos, 16 of which visa-on-arrival service is available. Those tourists who get visa at overseas Lao embassies are able to stay in Laos within 30 days and they can renew it for another 30 days.

Laos has signed an agreement on visa exemption with eight ASEAN and non-ASEAN member countries.
