More than 4,000 tonnes of bananas exported this year
This year the Lao Banana Company will export 4,500 tonnes of its produce - bananas, grown in the central province of Borikhamsay.
The Lao Banana Company Ltd, invested by a French entrepreneur, started exporting its produce in May to Singapore, Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh City. Meanwhile more than 300 tonnes of bananas are being for sale in domestic market. This figure is expected to grow by 20 or 30 per cent of the export.
The Lao Banana Company started to grow banana plants on 100 ha at Na-oimou village, Paksane district, 100 ha in Nahine village, Park Kading district, Borikhamsay province in 2008. A year later, the number of banana plants has grown to 400,000.
