Japanese fund begins Vietnam operations

Japanese fund DIAIF announced Thursday that it would invest in Vietnamese businesses and help them improve their competitiveness in domestic and export markets.

Dream Incubator Asia Industrial Fund, developed by Japanese Dream Incubator (DI) and Cayman Island-based Orix Corporation, will provide management experience and export opportunities to local businesses, said DI chairman Koichi Hori.

The fund, with an investment capital of US$50-100 million, will invest in businesses dealing with consumer products like stationery, seafood and mineral products.

DI, which runs the fund in Vietnam, will be supported by Japanese retailers and trading and financial firms that would be potential partners for local businesses to export their products to Japan, Hori said.

He added the fund would not focus on real estate, finance and information technology sectors in Vietnam.
