Shipping alliance to launch Vietnam-US service
An alliance of Coscon, K-Line, Yang Ming, and Hanjin Shipping said Wednesday it will start a direct service between Vietnam and the US East Coast in the middle of August.
This will be the first direct service between the deep-water port of Cai Mep in southern Ba RiaVung Tau Province and Norfolk and New York on the US East Coast, according to a press release.
The shipping company K-Line will operate eight of its 3,850-TEU vessels on behalf of the alliance.
Transit time is estimated to be about 27 days to Norfolk and 28 days to New York.
The CKYH announcement follows the launch of direct services between Vietnam and the US West Coast in June by APL, MOL and Hanjin Shipping. The outsourcing of apparel production by major US retail importers has encouraged the growth of container services to Vietnam.
CKYH Alliance expects the new service will take advantage of Vietnam’s rapid economic growth to gain positive business results.
