Deputy PM hails Da Nang’s hi-tech plan

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem viewed Da Nang’s plan to develop hi-tech industries as a correct move, saying it suits the nation’s policy of prioritising the development of science and technology to realise industrialisation and modernisation.

The Deputy PM delivered the remarks whilst addressing a forum calling for investment into the Da Nang Hi-tech Industrial Zone in central Da Nang city on March 27.

The forum brought together officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representatives from the US Embassy, the Russian Consulate General, the Lao Consulate General and local and foreign investors.

Deputy PM Khiem lauded Da Nang’s organisation of the forum, describing it as one of the efforts the city is making on the path to become a modern city with hi-tech based economy.

He expressed his belief that the forum provided a valuable opportunity for both local and foreign investors, especially those working in hi-tech industries, to understand thoroughly the city’s policies and mechanisms, its potential and advantageous social and natural features, in order to join hands with the city to spur growth of hi-tech industries.

“The Vietnamese Government and the Da Nang authorities will create every favourable condition for investors in hi-tech industries,” affirmed Khiem.

Targeting to become one of the nation’s big urban areas and the central region’s socio-economic centre, Da Nang plans to build a hi-tech industrial zone with the hope of utilising it to create a breakthrough in its socio-economic development strategy, thus enabling it to lead other localities in  national industrialisation and modernisation and turn into an industrialised city prior to 2020.

The municipal authorities plan to locate the Da Nang Hi-tech Industrial Zone in the southwest of the city on a total land acreage of 1,400 ha.

The zone is designed to encompass plants producing hi-tech industrial products, areas to supply hi-tech services and related services, technology research centres, and human resource training centres.

With the forum, Da Nang’s authorities expected to garner participants’ view on the mode and phases of development of the zone as well as solutions to mobilise capital for infrastructure construction, research activities and human resource training there.

At the event, Da Nang signed memoranda of understanding on cooperatiom with the VNPT, the Sovico Holdings group and the Vietnam Telecom Integrated Solutions Joint Stock Company.
