Da Nang hosts traditional craft village festival
A festival for traditional craft villages took place in the central city of Da Nang on March 25, drawing the participation of more than 50 handicraft villages from across the country.
On display were various types of handicraft products made in different traditional craft villages nationwide, such as Dong Ky wooden furniture, Dong Ho poonah-paper paintings, Bat Trang potteries, Non Nuoc stone works, Cam Ne mats, Tho Quang nets, Van Phuc silks, Phuoc Duc bronze products and Tay Bac brocades.
During the festival, the atmosphere of a truly traditional rural life was created through model craft villages, banyan trees, river ports, pagoda grounds and many folk games.
Visitors to the festival had the opportunity to watch artisans carving wooden furniture, throwing pottery, weaving silks, making cakes, drawing folk pictures and writing calligraphy.
The event aimed to honour the cultural value of traditional handicraft villages and serve as a venue for participants to exchange experiences in preserving and developing traditional crafts in all parts of the country.
On the occasion, a seminar titled “each village with a craft” was also held as part of the festival to discuss the necessary conditions and the feasibility of development of new craft villages amidst the country’s agricultural and rural industrialisation and modernisation process.
