Work still needed to meet WTO commitments
A workshop on the renovation of mechanisms of coordination and cooperation to help Vietnam ’s implement its commitments to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) was held in Hanoi on Oct. 24.
According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Cam Tu, the renovation is necessary as the country needs to ensure international economic integration within trade institutions at both regional and international levels immediately.
Vietnam , like other WTO members, has to participate in multilateral talks within the WTO framework, as well as regulating activities relating to trade disputes settlement he added.
Vietnam ’s involvement in the international integration process will become more complicated and full of challenges in the future, experts predicted. As a result, the country needs to adopt the appropriate policies to maximise any opportunities whilst minimising risks, they added.
To achieve this, the National Committee for International Cooperation must be a highly-competent agency with appropriate power to fully achieve the goal of economic integration and to meet WTO’s commitment regulations.
