Biofuel quality standards on the cards
Quality standards for biofuels have been proposed to authorized agencies for adoption, an official from the Directorate of Standards and Quality told a meeting held in Ha Noi on Thursday.
If approved, the standards would offer the basis for a legal framework for distribution and use of biofuels, including Gasohol E5 that contains 5 percent ethanol and 95 percent A92 petrol, Hoang Thi Tinh said.
The Petrochemical and Biofuel Joint Stock Company, which has been testing Gasohol E5, has been asked to soon finalize a set of basic standards for the fuel and submit to the directorate, delegates added.
If approved by the agency and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Gasohol E5 would be sold in the country, Ms. Tinh said.
Scientists attending the meeting agreed that Gasohol E5, if it contains 5-10 percent ethanol, would reduce costs as well as carbon dioxide emissions, protecting the environment.
It is also friendly to vehicle engines, they added.
