SME National Week 2008 to be launched nation wide

The National Week 2008 for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) under the theme “Connection and Integration for Joint Development” will take place in Hanoi, HCM City and many other provinces and cities throughout the country from November 17-21.

This will be one of the most important and prominent events of the year to be held by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in coordination with the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Finance, the Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and the Dai Duong (Ocean) group.

Addressing the press briefing held in Hanoi on October 24, VCCI Vice Chairman Hoang Van Dung said that the highlights of the week will include business forums, TV talk shows and training courses with the aim of accelerating the development of SMEs and promoting links between domestic and foreign businesses by raising their social awareness.

Vietnam now has more than 300,000 businesses of which SMEs account for 96.5 percent and their annual contributions make up 40 percent of the country’s total GDP and 17.46 percent of total budget collection while employing 50 percent of total workers.

The SME week will offer a good opportunity for policy markers, relevant ministries and sectors and businesses to exchange experiences and devise solutions for investment and trade aimed at perfecting the legal framework and increasing professional skills for human resources through training courses.

Mr Dung expressed his belief that the event will help Vietnamese businesses sharpen their competitive edge in the process of international integration and national development.
