Internet provider launches new logo, wireless technology
As the information technology sector in Laos continues to rapidly expand, Planet, the foremost internet service provider in Laos, continues to lead the way in the broadband internet market with the introduction of the latest state of the art technology Mobile WiMAX.

Planet Computer Company last week held a press conference to unveil its new logo and latest product at its customer service office in Ban Mixay.
The company, which has been operating in Laos since 1997, was the first to introduce wireless internet technology to the local market in 2001.
In line with its efforts to offer services based on the latest technology, Planet is preparing to launch a major upgrade to its network.
Planet will shortly be announcing another first with the introduction of a new range of services for customers.
Planet has already installed the latest wireless technology, called Mobile WiMAX, in its Vientiane network.
The technology, which is now available in markets such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the US, will make it possible for Planet to greatly improve services for its customers.
Ahead of the launch and to mark the changes, the company last week unveiled a new logo.
The new logo retains the familiar orange and black colours which will continue to connect Planet with its proud history of providing quality internet services to Lao companies and people for more than 10 years.
At the same time, Planet has chosen a modern logo that clearly represents the operator's forward-looking approach. The clean, sharp lines and bold letters describe a company that is working to deliver the best quality service to its customers.
According to the company, over the next month Laos will see Planet rapidly transition to its new logo. At the same time, the company will be shortly providing more information on a range of new service offerings based on WiMAX technology.
Planet Company Managing Di rector Mr Thanousone Phonamat said “Mobile WiMAX is a state-of-the-art wireless telecommunications technology. Planet has a licence issued by the government of Laos to use WiMAX technology to provide broadband internet within Laos.”
Planet Expo will be held at Donchan Palace Hotel from August 19-21, where Planet will join its service partners, a select group of the biggest players in the local IT industry, to launch the technology.
Planet Marketing and Sales Executive Halley Phetrasy said “The expo will be a wonderful event for everyone to see the new products and speak to experts at the same time.”
As Planet moves into the next stage of its development, the company announced that it has been joined by a new investor. The Cambodia-Laos Development Fund (CLDF), a European-based investment fund with offices in Cambodia and Laos which invests in innovative and transparent SMEs in both countries, and whose fund sources include the governments of Finland, Norway, Switzerland and Holland, as well as the International Finance Corporation, has invested an initial US$1.5 million in Planet. These funds are for the deployment of WiMAX base stations initially in Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Savannakhet, Pakxe and Thakhek to provide quality wireless broadband internet to the population in these key centres.
