Laos sets plan to produce 4.2 million tonnes rice

Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has a plan to produce 4.2 million tonnes of rice nationwide from now till 2015, Deputy Head of Cultivation Department, Mr. Vongkhamtan Thavong said at the meeting on national rice policy in Vientiane on 26 July.

Mr. Vongkhamtan said the meeting played an important role on establish strategy production plan to ensure the quality and quantity of rice supplying to the regional and international markets.

The participants have been urged to mobilise the state and private sectors creating a policy on management to provide more facility for businesspeople and ensure the income for farmers and consumers.

The meeting was very importance for dissemination of resolution of the 9th Party congress especially to ensure the foodstuff production and poverty reduction in the society.

He continued that the meeting disseminated the seventh five-year plan of socio-economic development and agriculture and forestry development plan.
