Lao company nominated for Asia top 100 business list

Lao company XY Mobile, which provides affordable mobile phones and tablets with Lao language capabilities, has been selected as a candidate for the 2011 Red Herring Top 100 Asia list.

The Red Herring Top 100 Asia list has become a mark of distinction for identifying promising new companies and entrepreneurs. The list was among the first to recognise that companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo, Skype, YouTube, and eBay would change the way we live and work.

“We are very proud to have been chosen as an exceptional candidate for the Red Herring Asia list,” said XY Mobile Managing Director Anousak Souphavahn.

“This recognition could not have come at a better time. We are working hard on getting an investor to join XY Mobile in order to keep up with the demand for our products.”

XY Mobile is a joint venture between the Xangdao Company of Laos and the Yozzo Company of Thailand. The company aims to bridge the digital divide by providing mobile phones and tablets with local language capability, giving users access to communication, education, information, and entertainment services in their own language.

Red Herring editorial staff evaluate companies on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technological innovation, management quality, strategy, and market penetration, which make the list a valuable instrument of discovery and advocacy for the most promising new business models in Asia.

The list will be narrowed down from candidates across Asia to a final Asia Top 100 Winners list in September.
