Beer Lao, Pepsi merged
The Lao government and Carlsberg Breweries have merged Lao Soft Drink Company and Lao Brewery Company into a single unit, hoping to strengthen the operation of the joint venture.
The shareholders of the two companies announced yesterday that the merger was made possible with official letters from the Lao government secretariat committee and the Ministry of Finance, adding that all contracts and obligations of both companies to organisations, customers, debtors and creditors will remain unchanged despite the consolidation of the management structure.
The Lao government has a 50 percent stake in the Lao Brewery Company and a 30 percent interest in the Lao Soft Drink Company, while the remaining shares in both companies belong to the Danish company, Carlsberg Breweries A/S.
Lao Brewery Company was established in 1973. The company produces 210 million liters of beer and 21 million liters of drinking water a year.
The Lao soft drink company was established in 1971. It has a production license from Pepsi Cola Beverage International to produce Pepsi and other soft drink products in Laos. The company also produces Viva drinking water, which has a 15 percent share of the drinking water market.
