Speaking at a press conference held at the unveiling, Mr Wichien Emprasertsuk said the Hilux Vigo and Fortuner are market leading Innovative Multi-Purpose Vehicles (IMV) from Toyota.

Toyota's IMV designed vehicles went on sale in 2004 and have a proven track record of popularity across the world, selling over 2.3 million units, and are market leaders in Laos, he said. “We are therefore tremendously proud to introduce more advanced automobile innovations into the Lao market,” he said.

The popularity of IMV vehicles can be attributed to their outstanding exterior designs, luxurious amount of passenger room, powerful engine, high fuel efficiency and rigid suspension, better maintenance intervals and their reputation for exceptional sturdiness and reliability, according to Mr Wichien.

Mr Wichien said that Toyota Thailand has boosted production capacity to ensure sufficient supply of the vehicles to customers in Laos and other countries.

Demand for vehicles in Laos has increased rapidly over the past five years due to the growing economy and increases in disposable income.

Vehicles imports rose 20 percent last year alone.
