Vietnamese enterprises display goods at int’l trade fair

Around 70 Vietnamese enterprises are expected to participate in an international trade fair, scheduled to be held in Myanmar’s capital city of Yangon on November 8.

Most of them are strong businesses who can afford to invest or set up joint ventures in fields for which there is demand in Myanmar. They have drawn up clear strategies for their exports to Myanmar as well as other Asian markets.

On display at the trade fair will be processed agricultural-aquatic products; agricultural machinery and materials; industrial products; electrical equipment, components and cabling; as well as pharmaceutical products and related equipment.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the trade fair is an opportunity for local businesses to boost their exports to Myanmar – a newly-emerging market regarded to be suitable to the abilities and technology of Vietnamese businesses.

Trade value between Vietnam and Myanmar has surged considerably in recent years. Last year’s figure showed an increase of 11 percent from a year earlier to US$108 million. However, due to the impact of the global economic crisis two-way trade fell by nearly 55 percent in the first four months of this year to US$16 million.

Vietnam’s major exports to Myanmar are currently garments, textiles and plastics while it imports wood and rubber.
