Can Tho expands rice exports to 4 markets
Can Tho City has exported over 59,000 tonnes of rice to the Philippines, Malaysia, China and some African countries, which have recently seen interruptions in rice exports.
This amount increases this year’s total rice exports to 420,000 tonnes, up 34 percent against the same period last year, achieving 79 percent of the plan for 2009. The turnover of rice exports has netted US$172 million.
The Thot Not Joint Stock Company and the Hau River Food Company have done the best in terms of advertisement to expand rice export markets.
These two companies’ rice sales account for nearly 50 percent of total rice exports from Can Tho City. The two companies have signed contracts to buy high-quality rice from farmers and over 100,000 tonnes of processed rice from factories.
Other outfits such as the Mekong, the Agriculture and the Agricultural Technical Material companies have increased their rice sales to other localities nationwide to 45,000 tonnes, expanded rice exports to Europe, North America and North Asia to more 25,000 tonnes and bought more than 18,000 ha of high-quality rice from farmers and processing factories.
