Re-invention key to prosperous future
Vietnamese entrepreneurs and businesses cannot afford to be complacent because the country is doing better than many others during the global economic crisis, young business leaders and professionals said at conference yesterday.
"During and after the recovery, competition will grow more intense at all levels," the organising committee of the VietAbroader Conference 2009 said in an introductory note.
This requires an examination of how individuals and businesses, and the nation as a whole, "can reinvent ourselves for a prosperous and desirable future," it said.
Four panels at the conference looked at: how traditional businesses in the food and beverages industry could rejuvenate themselves; business dilemmas facing the Vietnamese music industry; developing personal brands and leadership for a corporate career; and what it takes to become a successful entrepreneur.
Participants stressed the need to have passion for what they do as well as the ability to transmit this to others within an establishment in order to realize agreed-upon goals.
They said the process of reform had to be a daily activity in order to capture the interest and motivation of both staff and customers.
They also agreed that a focus on professional staff and firm organisational structure would also help businesses operate more effectively in a competitive environment.
Tran Trong Toan, deputy chairman of the Ministry of Foreign Affair’s Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, said in the context of globalisation, businesses must understand cultural differences to have a suitable trading strategy.
The conference was co-organised by VietAbroader and the HCM City University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
It aims to identify trends and factors shaping business in Viet Nam, connect delegates with "leaders in society" and nourish long-term relationships between young leaders in the country.
