Seminar discusses Consumer Protection Law
Protecting the consumers’ interests will help boost Vietnam’s sustainable development, said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Le Danh Vinh at a seminar held in Hanoi on August 18 to gather opinions from relevant agencies on the Consumer Protection Law.
Mr Vinh added that protecting consumers is the responsibility of the whole society: state agencies, businesses, and individuals. A draft law on Consumer Protection specifies new regulations defining the responsibilities of state agencies and methods for resolving disputes between consumers and traders.
Tran Thi Quang Hong, a representative from the Legal Scientific Institute said that to perfect the draft law, the compiling board should pay greater attention to specific cases in which consumers are entitled to full compensation in order to restore their interests more quickly.
The seminar was organised by the Competition Management Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam Standards and Consumers Association (VINASTAS) launched an action month to encourage Vietnamese consumers to buy milk products from domestic producers.
Tran Huu Duc, director of foreign affairs for Vietnamese food producer Dong Tam Nutrition Food Joint-stock Co. (Nutrifood) said that this is a good opportunity for domestic businesses to provide consumers with accurate information about their products, which are produced on a modern assembly line in accordance with international standards and meet the strict standards for food hygiene and safety set forth by the health sector.
He added that at a reasonable price, local consumers will buy and use Vietnamese products.
