Tra fish exports to be boosted
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on August 21 held an on-line conference on Tra fish breeding and exporting with Mekong Delta provinces.
It was reported that the market for this species of fish has shown signs of recovery recently with 326,000 tonnes exported in the past 7 months, earning more than US$700 million. Tra farming acreage in the Mekong Delta has increased by nearly 600ha since July last year to reach 5,100ha. As of mid August, Mekong Delta farmers have netted nearly 500,000 tonnes.
The ministry has asked the fishing industry to expand markets to Europe, Russia, the Middle East and the US, and provide farmers with new techniques to help reduce prices and improve quality.
