HCM City: CPI rises 0.22 percent in August

Ho Chi Minh City’s consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.22 percent in August over the previous month and 4.06 percent compared with the beginning of the year, according to the city’s Statistics Office.

In the first eight months of this year, the CPI registered an average monthly increase of 0.50 percent in comparison with the rise of 2.27 percent for the same period last year.

There was a considerable increase in commodity prices such as including housing-electricity-water-fuel (1.08 percent) and transport-post-telecommunications services (1.10 percent).

Garment-headwear-footwear and household equipment and utensils saw a slight increase of 0.74 percent.

Foodstuff prices slightly decreased with cattle meat falling by 1.23 percent, poultry, (0.75 percent), seafood, (0.46 percent) and vegetables, (1.43 percent).

However, processed meat increased by 0.48 percent, eggs by 0.51 percent, processed seafood by 1.36 percent and fruit by 0.73 percent.
