Mott MacDonald engages in Vietnam’s big power project

The UK’s Mott MacDonald Group will provide technical consultancy services for the Kien Luong 1 Thermal Power Project, the largest of its kind in Vietnam funded by a local non-state company.

A contract to this effect was signed in Hanoi on August 15 between Mott Macdonald and the Tan Tao Energy Joint Stock Company - the project’s investor.

Under the terms of the contract, the UK group will also help its partner select the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, oversee construction of the project and test the plant’s operation.

The project will cover 578.8 ha in Kien Luong district in the Mekong delta province of Kien Giang.

The plant includes two 600 MW turbine groups and is estimated to cost nearly VND45.8 trillion (US$2.6 billion) in total. When operating at full capacity in 2014, it will annually supply 8,100-8,640 billion kWh to the national grid.
