Taiwanese IT firms seek investment in Vietnam
Taiwanese information technology firms should think of Vietnam as not only a consumer market but also an investment destination with high potential, said an official from the Taipei Computer Association.
Association manager Vivian Liu said Taiwanese IT firms had suffered from the global economic recession but considered Vietnam a good Asian investment alternative. He said firms thought now was a good time to explore overseas markets.
Liu, who led 40 leading Taiwanese IT firms to Vietnam to explore investment opportunities in Ho Chi Minh City this week, said the country met the policy, human resource and logistics expectations of Taiwanese firms that had also invested in mainland China.
Liu told Thanh Nien Daily that several positive economic developments had sparked interest in more overseas investment recently.
“Businesses in Taiwan have faced the bottom of the recession and positive signs to recovery have appeared in economic indexes in the territory. Overseas investments by Taiwanese businesses will be enhanced in Vietnam,” he said.
However, Vietnam needed to improve in some areas if it wanted to appeal more Taiwanese IT investors, said Liu.
He said human resources were still weaker in Vietnam than in China, where many skilled workers graduate from training schools every year with the capacity to work for IT businesses. He said too many Vietnamese IT workers had to be retrained before receiving employment.
Liu also said Vietnam needed to prepare a post-recession investment environment to attract foreign investors, especially with good tax policies.
