Two projects start in Hanoi high-tech park
Work started Thursday on a university campus and a ship model testing laboratory in Hanoi’s Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park with a combined investment capital of VND4.2 trillion (US$245.5 million).
The 1,586 hectare Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park is the first and one of the largest high-tech parks in Vietnam.
The FPT University, Hoa Lac’s first university, is being built by technology firm Corporation for Financing and Promoting Technology, known as FPT Group, The Saigon Times Daily reported.
The university, expected to cost VND2.7 trillion ($1.6 billion), is being built on a 30 hectare site.
Upon its completion in 2015, about 10,000 students will be able to study at the campus, majoring in information and communication technology. The campus is expected to employ 1,000 staff, including lecturers.
The graduates will become a valuable pool of prospective employees for the high-tech park in Hanoi’s Thach That District, FPT University Deputy President Nguyen Xuan Phong said at Thursday’s ground-breaking ceremony.
The university expects to enroll its first 1,000 students in October, with the student body increasing to 3,000 students by 2011.
FPT University already has two campuses, one in Hanoi and one in Ho Chi Minh City.
State-owned ship builder Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin) also started work on a ship model testing laboratory in the high-tech park on Thursday.
The VND1.5 trillion ($87.7 million) 25-hectare lab is expected to be the biggest aerodynamics research center in northern Vietnam when construction is completed in 2013.
