US firms wins $25mil consultancy role for Vung Ang power plant
The US company Worley Parsons Pte. Ltd. will provide consultancy services for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the thermo-electric power plant Vung Ang 1 in the central province of Ha Tinh.
The contract for the EPC consultancy services, worth over US$25.4 million, was signed by the US company and the Viet Nam Machinery Installation Corporation (LILAMA) in Ha Noi yesterday, July 23.
Under the contract, WorleyParssion will provide technical and project management consulting for all stages of the EPC, including quality management, risk control, training, technology transferring, bidder selection, etc.
The 1,200 MW power plant, one of the country's 16 key projects, will be built in the Vung Ang Economic Zone in Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province with a total investment of US$1.17 billion.
The coal-fuelled plant is expected to put its first turbine into operation in August 2012 and the second at the beginning of 2013, adding nearly 8 billion kWh a year to the national grid.
For operation of the factory, about 2.9 million tonnes of coal per year is expected to be needed.
In June, LILAMA inked a deal with the US company Babcock&Wilcox to purchase equipment for the factory, including the steam furnace system.
The value of the deal between LILAMA and Babcock&Wilcox was around $181.15 million.
In the face of the global economic crunch, LILAMA reported a revenue of VND5.28 trillion ($297 million) in the first half of this year, representing around 42 per cent of the year's target. The corporation earned a VND123 billion before-tax profit during the period.
LILAMA's director general Pham Hung said at a seminar in early July that the corporation would make great efforts to restructures its management to realise the 58 per cent remainder of its business target in the second half of the year.
