Beeline joins mobile fray
Beeline, the country’s seventh and first international mobile network, officially launched on Monday with the prefix 0199.
Beeline is provided by Gtel Mobile, the joint venture between Viet Nam’s Gtel Corporation and VimpelCom, one of the leading international providers of telecommunications services in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
In the initial stage, Beeline will be available to more than 15 million people in Ha Noi, HCM City and Da Nang.
By the end of 2009, Gtel Mobile plans to increase the network to more than 40 provinces and cities nationwide to open service to about 41 million people.
The first product offering under the Beeline brand here is the Big Zero tariff plan with a competitive price for on-net and off-net calls and affordable SMS service.
Off-net calls will cost VND1,199 dong per minute while on-net calls under 20 minutes will be free after the first minute.
The prices for on-net SMS and off-net SMS are VND250 dong and VND350 dong, respectively.
"With the start of our operations in Viet Nam, we are strengthening our position in Southeast Asia. The Vietnamese telecom market has a great potential with a young and dynamic population of more than 86 million people and a fast growing economy," said Boris Nemsic, Chief Executive Officer of VimpelCom.
With 60 per cent of the stake held by the Vietnamese partner and the rest by Vimpelcom, Gtel Mobile has been licensed to build, develop and exploit the mobile telecom market and value-added tax services using the Global System for Mobile Communications (GMS) technology.
