Nokia Siemens wins 3G deal in Vietnam

Telecom equipment maker Nokia Siemens Networks said Tuesday it had won a 3G radio network contract from Vietnamese Viettel for an undisclosed sum.

The firm said the deal included hardware, software, services and training. Deliveries would start this month, with the network to come online early next year.

Viettel, a leading telecom provider in Vietnam, was recently awarded a 3G license by the government.

Viettel this month also signed a contract with Chinese Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. to develop the High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) infrastructure for its 3G network by the year-end.

Huawei will build more than 3,000 base stations throughout Vietnam, including in Hanoi, Da Nang and parts of Ho Chi Minh City, the company said.
