Local private carrier prepares personnel for inaugural flight

Vietjet Air, the first private airline licensed in Vietnam, says it is recruiting and training Vietnamese employees to prepare for its first commercial flight slated to take off in the last quarter of this year.

“Vietjet Air’s human resources strategy will focus on highly qualified Vietnamese staff who will play a key role in making us one of the leading international standard airlines in Vietnam,” the company’s founder Nguyen Duc Tam told Thanh Nien Daily Friday.

The positions that the carrier is recruiting and providing training for include senior management, managers, flight attendants, technicians, sales and marketing.

“The key positions such as Chief Executive Officer, Director of Flight Operations, Director of Maintenance, Director of Safety and Quality Control and Director of Commerce will be filled up by qualified and experienced people who will be recruited from other airlines,” Tam said.

The company had announced last month that its management restructuring process was complete and its first take-off still scheduled for the last quarter of this year.

The VND600 billion (US$37.5 million) private airline, with Sovico Group as its largest shareholder, plans to start flying on domestic routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, before expanding to Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, and other destinations in Malaysia, China, South Korea and Japan.

VietJet Air was licensed in late 2007.

Indochina Airlines, the private airline licensed after Vietjet, began operating last November. Another private carrier, Mekong Aviation, plans to inaugurate operations next year.
