Donors to review Vietnam's development in June
The Consultative Group (CG) for Vietnam will hold its informal mid-year review meeting on June 8-9, 2009 in Buon Ma Thuot City in the Central Highland province of Dak Lak.
The meeting will focus on assessing the macroeconomic situation, recent developments and growth, forecasts for 2009, social impacts due to the economic slowdown and the Government’s policy response, following the World Bank in Hanoi.
Delegates attending the event will also discuss the Vietnam Business Forum’s report on Governance and Anti-Corruption measures and focus on implementing the Anti-Corruption Strategy towards 2020, Climate Change: Adaptation and Mitigation, progress on Harmonisation Agenda and aid efficiency.
The CG for Vietnam consists of representatives from the Government and bilateral and multilateral donors to Vietnam. The Government delegation is expected to be led by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem. The Chairpersons of the CG are Vo Hong Phuc, Minister of Planning and Investment and Ms. Victoria Kwakwa, Country Director for the World Bank in Vietnam.
Alongside the main meeting, a separate mid-term Vietnam Business Forum with the business community, both domestic and foreign, will be held on June 1 in Ho Chi Minh City. The forum will discuss impressions from local and foreign enterprises on the current business environment, Administrative Obstacles for Businesses and Investors, Banking and Capital Markets, Manufacturing and Distribution, and Tourism.
At last year’s CG taking place in Hanoi, donors committed over US$5 billion for Vietnam’s poverty reduction and development programme.
