Vietnam strives for 39 mln tonnes of rice in 2009
Vietnam , the world’s second largest rice exporter, plans to maintain its rice planting area of 7.5 million ha to produce 39 million tonnes of paddy in 2009.
The output will ensure the implementation of food security goal as well as stable rice exports.
According to the Statistics General Department in 2008, Vietnam exported 4.72 million tonnes of rice, earning 2.9 billion USD.
Although the rice export volume increased only 3.6 percent compared with last year, its turnover jumped by nearly 95 percent thanks to higher prices of Vietnam ’s rice in the world market.
