Ministry building system to anticipate anti-dumping lawsuits

The Competition Control Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade is working on an early warning system for anti-dumping lawsuits against Vietnamese export items.

This move aims to help Vietnamese exporters to prevent and avoid lawsuits and to diminish losses incurred by these cases.

This system will oversee Vietnam’s key export markets like the US and the European Union (EU) to collect information about market, law, institution changes in these markets and give forecasts about possible anti-dumping lawsuits against Vietnamese goods.

The system will also give analyses, evaluations and suggestions about measures to prevent anti-dumping cases.

According to the Competition Control Agency, Vietnamese exporters have so far faced 29 anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and self-defence lawsuits and the number of these cases is tending to increase year by year.

Anti-dumping cases are still new to Vietnamese businesses so they meet a lot of difficulties in handling these cases.

Anti-dumping lawsuits cause economic losses not only for the producers of the products in question but also the industries that use these products as input materials.

The Competition Control Agency also said that anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and self-defence lawsuits also adversely affect foreign investment in Vietnam so it is necessary to urgently build an early warning system for anti-dumping cases.

This is also a major part of a Denmark-funded global competition funding project.
