Price of essential goods falls

The price of essential goods in the Ho Chi Minh City, including rice, meat and cement, began to fall this week.

Pham Thi Thanh Tuyen, director of the Saigon Coop supermarket chain, said that co-op and meat suppliers had co-operated to reduce the price of meat by cutting their profit margins.

The prices of pork, beef and buffalo at 30 Saigon Coop supermarkets fell by 2,000 VND a kg this week.

The price of rice art markets and supermarket s has dropped by 500-1,000VND a kg compared to last week.

The price of rice at Saigon Co-op is being sold at 10,700 VND a kg compared to 11,300 VND in mid-May.

However, the price of rice is still 1,500-3,000 VND kg, higher compared to the end of April, according to rice traders.

The prices of cement also fell recently as more than 50,000 tonnes of cement were transported from the north to the south in May under an order from the Government.

Cement prices fell by 5,000-7,000 VND a 50-kg bag.
