Hanoi meeting attracts region’s corporate leaders
Chief financial officers (CFOs) from companies across the Asia Pacific gathered in Hanoi on November 27 to discuss measures to help enterprises survive the aftermath of the global recession.
Entitled “Weathering the Financial Crisis: The Asian CFO Perspective,” the International Association for Financial Executives Institutes (IAFEI) CFO summit 2009 also examined a proposal to introduce the IAFEI Global Accreditation System in IAFEI member countries in the region.
Vietnam Association of Corporate Directors chairman Han Manh Tien emphasised the importance of improving financial governance in the context of global integration.
Tien described the summit, the first such event in Vietnam, as a good opportunity to gradually build up a base of competent and professional CFOs and financial executives in the country.
In Vietnam, the capacity of CFOs was not as strong as expected, said Nguyen Trong Hieu, deputy director of the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Agency for Enterprise Development. Hieu called for closer co-operation between domestic and international CFOs to share experiences in corporate and risk management.
