Monthly tourist arrivals up 38.6 pct in November
Some 38.6 percent more foreign tourists arrived in Vietnam this month compared to last November, narrowing the overall annual decline so far this year to 12.4 percent, an industry official said Friday.
More than 387,870 foreign tourists visited Vietnam this month, up 70 percent from October, Nguyen Van Tuan, head of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, said at a tourism conference in Hanoi, according to local news website VietNamNet
There were sharp increases from many key markets including South Korea, China and Japan, Tuan said, attributing the increases to effective promotional campaigns.
Overall arrivals in the first 11 months reached 3.4 million, down 12.4 percent from the same period last year. The decline rate had been 16.6 percent in October.
Tuan said he expected the recovery to help Vietnam attract a total 3.9-4 million tourists this year, beating an earlier target of 3.8 million. Arrivals increased 0.6 percent to 4.2 million in 2008.
Vietnam aims to increase foreign arrival number to 8 million by 2015 and 12 million by 2020. The tourism industry targets annual revenues of $10-11 billion by 2015, more than double its current figures.
