VN-Index edges down as cash flow blocks

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index tumbled on May 31 as investors opted to stand on the sideline amid market uncertainties.

Shares of 304 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange plunged 1.41 per cent, or 6.14 points, to close at 429.2 points with 49 stocks climbing, 230 dropping, and 30 remaining unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse fell by nearly 2 per cent in volume, and 7 per cent in value over the previous trading session as more than 48.18 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND732.03 billion.

Sacombank Securities Joint Stock Company (SBS) was the most active share in volume with 2.5 million shares changing hands.

Hoang Quan Consulting - Trading - Service Real Estate Corporation (HQC) took second place with 1.8 million shares.

Sao Mai Construction Corporation (ASM) came next with 1.58 million shares traded.

PVC Petro Capital & Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company (PTL), and Petro Vietnam Transportation Corporation (PVT) slashed 5 per cent to close at VND5,700.

Rang Dong Plastic Joint Stock Company (RDP) removed 4.95 per cent to close at VND9,600.

Tuong An Vegetable Oil Joint Stock Company (TAC), Vitranschart Joint Stock Company (VST), and Alphanam Joint Stock Company (ALP) all destroyed 4.88 per cent to close at VND58,500, VND3,900, and VND7,800 respectively.

Saigon Cable Corporation (CSG) advanced for five straight trading sessions, growing 4.85 per cent to close at VND10,800.

Ben Tre Forestry & Aqua Product Import Export Joint Stock Company (FBT) revived 4.5 per cent to close at VND11,600.

Bien Hoa Packaging Company (SVI) and Vegetable Oil Packing Joint Stock Company (VPK) accelerated 4.44 per cent to close at VND23,500, and VND14,100 respectively.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – retreated 6.31 points, or 1.23 per cent, to end at 510.81. Among its 30 members, 2 advancers, 26 decliners, and 2 stocks closed unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north wrecked 2.05 per cent, or 1.55 points, to close at 74.07 points with 45 winners, 212 losers, and 45 stocks treading water. Around 44.14 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND437.15 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares reduced 0.38 per cent, or 0.14 points, to close at 36.3 points. A total of 304,220 shares changed hands at VND1.56 billion.
