Blue-chip stocks buoy market

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index rebounded on May 30 as large-cap stocks regained ground.

The gauge of 304 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange recovered 0.9 per cent, or 3.9 points, to close at 435.34 points with 126 gainers, 118 losers, and 65 stocks remaining unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse recovered by 3 per cent in volume, and 9 per cent in value over the previous trading session as more than 49.04 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND787.28 billion.

SACOM Development and Investment Corporation (SAM) won the position of most active share by volume with 3.95 million shares changing hands.

Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) followed with 2.07 million shares.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) came in third with 1.6 million shares traded.

Tan Tien Plastic Packaging Joint Stock Company (TTP) sprang 5 per cent to close at VND33,600.

SACOM Development and Investment Corporation (SAM) soared 4.94 per cent to close at VND8,500.

International Development & Investment Corporation (IDI), and Nam Kim Steel Joint Stock Company (NKG) mounted 4.9 per cent to close at VND10,700, and VND15,000 respectively.

Thien Long Group Corporation (TLG) capped its three-day winning streak, closing down 4.95 per cent at VND21,100.

National Seed Joint Stock Company (NSC) chopped 4.89 per cent to close at VND42,800.

Hamico Mineral Group (KSH) retreated the third consecutive trading session, decelerating 4.85 per cent to close at VND9,800.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – revived 2.57 points, or 0.5 per cent, to end at 513.38. Among its 30 members, 16 stocks raised, 9 fell, and 5 closed unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north resurrected 0.42 per cent, or 0.32 points, to close at 75.62 points with 138 winners, 98 losers, and 73 stocks treading water. Around 32.37 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND345.81 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares restored 0.16 per cent, or 0.06 points, to close at 36.44 points. A total of 297,810 shares changed hands at VND1.63 billion.
