VN-Index extends gain 

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index climbed the second day on March 1 as investors continued buying shares on speculation that valuations were low.

The gauge of 303 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange escalated 1.02 per cent, or 4.31 points, to close at 427.95 points with 131 gainers, 114 decliners, and 63 stocks remaining unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse fell by 29 per cent in volume and 33 per cent in value over the previous trading session as around 89.5 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.53 trillion.

Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) was most active share in volume with 11.64 million shares changing hands.

The fifth largest listed lender Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Export Import Bank or Eximbank (EIB) was the runner-up with 4.12 million shares.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) followed with 3.15 million shares traded.

Saigon Beverages Joint Stock Company (TRI) and South Vietnam Container Shipping Joint Stock Company (VSG) both grew 5.88 per cent to close at VND1,800.

Meca Vneco Investment & Electricity Construction Joint Stock Company (VES) rallied 5.26 per cent to VND2,000.

Vietnam Blue-chips Investment Fund (VFMVF4) mounted 5 per cent to close at VND4,200.

Cadovimex Seafood Import-Export & Processing Joint Stock Company (CAD) retreated for four consecutive trading sessions, losing 12.5 per cent to close at VND700.

Viettronics Tan Binh Joint Stock Company (VTB) edged down 9.09 per cent to close at VND7,000.

Tuong An Vegetable Oil Joint Stock Company (TAC) evaporated 5 per cent to close at VND22,800.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange - raised 5.83 points, or 1.2 per cent, to end at 491.01. Among its 30 members, 18 stocks rallied, 10 declined and two closed unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north enriched 1.31 per cent, or 0.9 points, to close at 69.58 points with 164 winners, 93 losers, and 70 stocks stalled. Around 64.34 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND587.38 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares surged 0.52 per cent, or 0.18 points, to 34.59 points at 11.30 am local time. A total of 195,560 shares changed hands at VND1.19 billion.
