Blue chips lead market rebound
Pre-holiday excitement prevailed in Viet Nam's markets on Apr. 29, with the VN-Index gaining 1.5 per cent to close at 480.08 points, while the HNX-Index climbed 0.4 per cent to finish at 83.58 points.
In HCM City, volume reached 24.7 million shares worth VND629 billion (US$29.9 million). Volume was slightly higher compared to yesterday, but value climbed by 39 per cent.
Advancers doubled decliners, and 55 codes remained unchanged.
The ten largest capitalised shares all made gains, barring Sacombank (STB), that trod water.
Food producer Masan Group (MSN) rose nearly 5 per cent, closing at VND123,000. Insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) and Petrovietnam Fertiliser and Chemical Corporation (DPM) followed, up 3.4 and 2 per cent respectively.
Vietinbank (CTG), after declining yesterday, finished up 1.8 per cent.
Saigon Securities (SSI) was the most active stock with 1.6 million shares changing hands.
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, shares rallied from yesterday tumble with gainers outnumbering losers by 131-122.
With 29.4 million shares worth VND383 billion ($18.2 million) exchanged, trading was up 27 per cent in volume and 24 per cent in value, contributing to a combined increase on both bourses of 32 per cent in value compared to yesterday.
The most active share in Ha Noi was also a securities code - VNDirect (VND), with 2.9 million shares changing hands.
Both exchanges will be closed for a public holiday and will not reopen until next Wednesday.
