New Talat Sao Mall to open this year

Vientiane residents will be able to enjoy a new shopping experience when the new eight-storey Talat Sao Mall is completed within this year.

The new mall is now 80 percent complete, according to project site engineer Mr Kaychith Sayasith.

“We have nearly completed the overall structure of the building and are now working on cleaning before installing equipment such as lifts, elevators, air-conditioners, lights and interior decoration.”

“We can't say exactly when the mall will open to shoppers; however it'll definitely be this year.”

The completed mall will feature a shopping complex, department stores, supermarket, fast food outlets, restaurants, a cinema, karaoke lounges, function halls, a training centre, small offices, a 169 room hotel and parking for around 600 vehicles per day.

The first to third floors will contain a major shopping complex consisting of a total of 281 stores. The fourth and fifth floors will house entertainment facilities such as a cinema, fitness centre, restaurants and karaoke lounges.

The fourth and fifth floors will be a hotel and the top three floors will contain offices and a viewing area.

“The shopping centre on the first to third floors should be completed first and that might be open to the public initially, while construction work on the other floors continues,” Mr Kaychith said .

The project developers have allowed clients to design their own stores in the mall. “We have allocated certain areas into different zones and then allowed clients do design their own store space before we start fitting out the mall.”

“However, they must submit their designs soon because interior decoration is set to start very soon,” he added.

The mall has attracted interest from both local and foreign businesses. “The Big C brand might have a store in the centre, however the matter is still under negotiation,” he said.

Big C is the operator of a chain of large department stores across Thailand.

The Talat Sao Shopping Mall, located in Chanthabouly district, Vientiane, covers an area of over 65,000 square metres. The total project investment is US$35 million.

The initial and existing section of the mall begun construction in 2005 by the Singaporean-based Crescendas Group and first opened to the public in 2007.

Established in 1982, the Crescendas Group is engaged in a diverse range of businesses covering real estate, manufacturing, distribution and technology.

Apart from Singapore, the group has facilities and operations located in Malaysia, Laos and China.
