Asean Trade Centre shopping mall to open by June

The completion date for construction of the Asean Trade Centre shopping mall, originally set for March this year, has been delayed until June.

An investor in the centre, Mr Vixay Navientiane said, “At first we expected to complete the shopping complex early this year but we made improvements to the design of the mall, modernising it and making it more attractive, so the schedule has moved to around June.”

He added that construction is currently focussed on the overall structure of the mall. “We have nearly completed the main structure and installation of lifts and escalators will follow shortly,” said Mr Vixay.

The Asean Trade Centre is located on the Khamphaeng Meuang road and is a private investment project which hopes to attract a wide range of businesses as well as provide a relaxing place for the people of Vientiane to visit.

The shopping mall is one of the main buildings in the Asean Trade Centre and the last to be completed before the entire construction project comes to an end.

The centre boasts more than 170 business premises, opened at a ceremony late last year, making it one of the most dynamic real estate developments in Vientiane.

Many businesses are already operating there, most notably a mobile phone centre, and include private companies, NGO offices, private schools and shops.

Mr Vixay said the three-storey business premises are already nearly booked out. “Only ten suites are available now,” he stated.

When completed the centre is expected to include a night market and entertainment facilities. Mr Vixay said a large parking area will be also provided.

It seems that this year shoppers will be spoilt for choice as another large shopping centre, the Talat Sao Mall, is to open in Vientiane. Further shopping centres and markets are under construction and will be opening in the coming years.

The real estate business in Vientiane is booming; too fast in many people's opinion. However, Mr Vixay believes that from now, till at least 2020, real estate is a good business to be in here in Laos. He even plans to build more buildings to meet the demands of the developing market.

Mr Vixay also runs many companies such as the Vientiane Steel Roofing Factory, Vientiane Steel Centre, Savannakhet Steel Roofing Factory, Savannakhet Steel Structures Factory, Design and Construction Services and a jewellery business.
