Air France to revive direct Paris-HCMC service
Air France will revive its direct Paris-Ho Chi Minh City service in November under a code-share agreement with Vietnam Airlines.
In 2005 it had terminated a similar agreement with the Vietnamese carrier to concentrate on other Asian markets.
Air France will use Boeing 747-400 aircraft to operate three weekly flights on the route before switching to Boeing 747-300ER.
The airline now operates seven weekly flights to Hanoi and HCMC -- via Bangkok – and this number will increase to 13 from July 3 when, under the same code-share agreement, Vietnam Airlines will operate six weekly services under the Air France code.
Vietnam Airlines, the newest member of the SkyTeam airline alliance, which also includes Air France, operates eight of its own flights a week between the two countries.
The French airline hopes to take advantage of the recovery in the number of French visitors to Vietnam after last year’s global economic downturn, The Saigon Times Daily reported.
Vietnam welcomed 91,309 French visitors in the first five months, up 10.5 percent year on year, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
