14 northern provinces to explore comparative advantages
The total industrial product value of the 14 Northern provinces in the 2006-2010 period reached an annual average growth rate of 17 percent and their earnings in the retail market have increased by 20 percent annually.
This was reported at a workshop reviewing the industrial and commercial activities of the provinces in the period, jointly held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Dien Bien Provincial People’s Committee on June 8.
These provinces have enjoyed a year on year rapid growth in exports averaging 21 percent, the report said.
They have made use of comparative advantages in natural resources to develop mining, ago-forestry processing and material building industries, the report said. Consultation in industrial development has been significantly strengthened generating jobs, increasing incomes for workers and contributing greatly to the region’s economic development.
However, there are still snags in local industrial and commercial production which needs to be discussed and dealt with in the immediate future.
