CG meeting to discuss capital sources to develop infrastructure

"Vietnam's biggest challenge is seeking capital sources for developing infrastructure", said regional director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Simon Andrews at the threshold of the Consultative Group (CG) Meeting in Kien Giang on June 8.

He added that Vietnam should consider the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) cooperative model in developing infrastructure.

Victoria Kwakwa, Country Director of the World Bank in Vietnam, said the CG meeting will focus on discussing the country's priority areas under the five-year plan (2011-2015) including developing human resources and infrastructure, and reforming laws.

Kofi Awanyo, Head of the bidding board of the WB in Vietnam said disbursement rate in Vietnam is slowest in the region due to differences in terms of bidding reguations between donors and Vietnam's reguations. To overcome this situation, the Bidding Management Department under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) recommended that agencies using ODA capital should implement donor's requests. This has been stipulated in the article 3 of Vietnam's Bidding Law.
