MoIT seeks measures to boost exports
The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) on September 24 worked with agro-forestry and fisheries associations and businesses to seek measures to boost exports in the last quarter of the year.
Ministry experts and members of the sector agreed to coordinate with relevant agencies to implement measures to resolve the difficulties they are facing and to assist agro-forestry and fisheries production, especially in finding outlets for farm produce in order to develop production and increase the income of farmers.
The Ministry plans to build trade promotion programmes and assign relevant departments to help enterprises develop their markets in countries less affected by the global financial crisis, as well as strengthen the domestic market.
According to Pham Van Chinh, Deputy Director of the MoIT’s Import-Export Department, export volumes for most farm produce increased in the first nine months of the year, but prices decreased, resulting in a decline in total export value of 11.8 percent against the same period last year.
Nguyen Van Thu, Vice President of the Vietnam Tea Association said Russia and the US are the two top potential markets among 49 Vietnamese tea importers. Enterprises need to focus on those two markets to assert Vietnamese tea’s position in the world.
