Pharmacy firm hits quality goal
The Ministry of Health has recognised the ECO Pharmacy Joint Stock Company as the first drugstore chain in Viet Nam that has met the Good Pharmacy Practices standards.
According to GPP standards that the ministry issued in January 2007, drugstores must meet several strict criteria, including a minimum area of 10sq.m and facilities to store medicines in accordance with storage requirements printed on the drug labels.
All medicines must also show their place of origin and have clear instructions for their use.
Drug sellers need to have received formal training in pharmacology and have considerable experience.
Pham Khanh Phong Lan, deputy head of HCM City’s Department of Health, said that the company was also being awarded three certificates: Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Storage Practices (GSP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) by the WHO.
This would facilitate the production of high-quality drugs for the domestic market and for export, she said.
The company, which has ten drugstores, has contributed to the supply of quality drugs at reasonable prices to city residents, she added.
Nguyen Viet Hung, deputy director of the Drug Administration of Viet Nam, asked the company to maintain its high standards and ensure the availability of quality drugs in the domestic market.
Cao Minh Quang, deputy minister of Health, hoped that Viet Nam will have more drugstore chains that meet GPP standards.
Lan said 200 of 3,356 drugstores including those that belong to hospitals and companies’ in HCM City confirmed to meet GPP standards.
